If you are a cat owner you know how cats beg for food when you eat in front of them. They are like our siblings who cannot stop themselves and ask for a bite when we are eating something. Cats are tempted by our snacks as much as we are tempted to see them.

How can we say ‘no’ to an adorable kitty begging for a bite from our food? We surely cannot but one thing we need to know is if human foods are safe for them to eat. That food may be safe for us to eat but it is not okay for our furry felines to consume everything that we are eating.

Some human foods are safe for cats, But human food can never replace cat food and it can never be a complete and balanced diet for cats. So, here is our guide to help you know which foods are safe for your cat:

1. Meat

Cats are carnivores and they need meat for energy. Cooked meat such as chicken, beef, lamb, turkey, and liver is safe for your cat. Make sure the meat is cooked. Never feed raw meat to your cat. Also, remove extra skin and bones before giving them to your little carnivore.

Avoid meats high in sodium as salt can be toxic for your cat.

2. Fish

Is Fish Safe for Cats?

Cats cannot resist Fish in the aquarium. So, before they make a scene at the aquarium, buy them fish. Fish contains omega-3 fatty acids which are good for their overall health and for cats with arthritis and kidney disease. Fish helps to improve eyesight, brain, and joint health.

Make sure you are not feeding them raw fish and serve them cooked fish without bones.

3. Whole Grains

Whole grains such as corn, oats, couscous, and brown rice are full of protein, fiber, and iron which are useful for your cat’s overall health. They are also good for cats with skin problems and digestive issues.

4. Bananas

Bananas are safe and healthy for your cat. Please note that bananas should only be given as a special treat as they have high sugar content.

5. Melons

Cats deserve to enjoy this classic summer treat. Cats love to nibble on cantaloupe, honeydew, and watermelon. Make sure the melons are seedless before you give them to your feline. Melons are high in vitamins A and C.

6. Pumpkin

Pumpkins are safe for cats and contain healthy nutrients. Pumpkin is rich in potassium, fiber, phosphorous, calcium, and vitamins A, C, and K. A lot of cat foods contain pumpkin as an ingredient. It is useful for cats with gastrointestinal issues.

7. Berries

Blueberries, cranberries, raspberries, and strawberries are good fruits for your cat as they are high in antioxidants and low in sugar. They also contain a lot of fiber and contain vitamins A, C, E, and K.

8. Carrots

Carrots can be a healthy treat for your cat as they are rich in vitamins, calcium, iron, and potassium. Make sure to feed cooked or boiled carrots to your cat because raw carrots may result in choking hazards.

9. Spinach

Kitties love leafy greens. Spinach is rich in nutrients like potassium, iron, fiber, and vitamins A, C, and K but it should not be given to cats with kidney or urinary problems.

10. Eggs

It may surprise you but cats can eat eggs. Cats can eat cooked eggs; scrambled or boiled. Eggs are full of amino acids and protein. Make sure not to feed raw eggs as raw eggs put cats at risk of salmonella.
