10 Great Movies For Cats And Cat Lovers

Great Movies For Cats And Cat Lovers

Cats are excellent movie companions. Not only are they highly independent, so you don’t have to worry about them interrogating you about what’s going on in the movie, but you also get a cuddle buddy. Now, I must state that there is no guarantee that your kitty will allow you to pet them, but there is always hope, which makes it an ideal side activity while watching a movie.

But what movie can you watch with your cat by your side? It can’t be too violent because your cat might be startled by the loud noises or get scared. That is why I have compiled a list of some of the best movies about cats that any cat lover will enjoy watching with their cat.

I have added animated movies to the mix too as there are way too many animated cat movies that are so so great. So, scroll down to see for yourself and have fun, and don’t worry, Catwoman isn’t on this list.

1. Keanu (2016)

keanu movie

Keanu isn’t a new movie, but it didn’t do as well at the box office as it should have when it first came out, despite the fact that the main character, a cat, was voiced by the one and only Keanu Reeves. There is constant chaos, and the comedy is excellent. So, if you want a lighthearted romp with a sassy kitty, this is the film for you.

I won’t give away the film’s plot as I don’t want to spoil it for you because this movie is a must-see that you won’t regret.

2. Puss In Boots (2011)

puss in boots

Can a list of cat movies be complete without Puss in Boots? While we are familiar with this character from Shrek 2, he did receive a feature film that served as a sort of prequel. He brings the same charm to this film as he did to Shrek, and we couldn’t ask for more as Puss in Boots always gets his way.

Even your cat will enjoy watching this because the overall composition of the film is absolutely stunning, and it will undoubtedly captivate everyone at movie night.

3. Tom And Jerry (2021)

tom and jerry

If you want to feel nostalgic, this is the film for you. I remember watching Tom and Jerry on TV daily as a kid, laughing at Tom’s antics and rooting for Jerry. They’re back, and this time it’s all about their foray into the real world. Once again, Tom has to get Jerry out of a hotel, which, as you might expect, does not go well for anyone involved.

It’s a great watch, and the impressive blending of live actors and animation is absolutely stunning.

4. The Aristocats (1970)

I knew it was coming, and you knew it was going to be on this list. After all, this is the film that started it all. It may be an oldie, but it is unquestionably a darn good time for me and my cats. Surprisingly, the animation still holds up, and the jazzy music tops it all off. This is a simple feel-good film that will undoubtedly make you smile and cherish your cat.

So, if you’re looking for a family-friendly film, this is it, and your cat will appreciate the choice as well.

5. Garfield (2004)

If you don’t care about the plot and would rather watch a movie with a lazy cat and a lot of quips, this Garfield adventure might be for you. The orange spaghetti-obsessed cat has returned, and he is ready to cause even more havoc. In this foray, he is attempting to reclaim a runaway dog, which, as one might expect, does not go as well as one might hope.

This film might be a little old but is sure to satisfy your desire for more Garfield-related entertainment while also making you smile.

6. A Whisker Away (2020)

If you’re in the mood for a good cry, this animated film will do the trick. I won’t spoil anything for you, but you wouldn’t expect a film about a girl who can transform into a cat to be so touching and heartfelt. It deals with a variety of issues, but at its core, the film is about love.

So, if you want your cat to see your ugly crying face, this is one movie you do not want to miss.

7. The Cat (2011)

If none of the previous films piqued your interest and you’re looking for something to frighten you, this Korean horror film is for you. However, if you are easily scared, you should watch it with your eyes closed. I am a horror fan, and even I was startled several times.

So while this film may be a bit of a stretch for your cat, it will undoubtedly suck the cat in with its great atmosphere and scares.

8. A Cat In Paris (2012)

Do not be put off by the film’s art style; it is a great film with a unique aesthetic that I have personally enjoyed watching multiple times. When we think of people who have dual lives, we usually think of superheroes or Hannah Montana, not cats who work for robbers at night.

However, if that premise appeals to you, this film will be a pleasure to watch. And I’m sure your cat will appreciate the art style and beautifully smooth animation as well.

9. Cats And Dogs (2001)

This film is a little different from others in that it is about a war between dogs and cats. Our furry little pets may get along in real life (sometimes), but that is not the case in this film, but it is still a great watch that your kitty will enjoy.

It’s not the most visually appealing film, but if you can get past the rough edges, you’ll fall in love with the characters and the hilarious plot.

10. Stuart Little (1999)

stuart little cat

There’s a reason this film is at the bottom of the list. Because, while it is a genre classic, it is all about a rat, and the only cat we see in this feature film is the antagonist. However, it is still a fun watch, and despite being released in 1999, the special effects are still impressive.

So, if you’re looking for a fun romp that doesn’t take itself too seriously, this is a great choice. As an aside, your cat may scratch the TV while Stuart is on the screen, so be prepared.

These are just a few of the films that feature cats; there are many more. As you can see, we did not include the film Cats because we do not want to remember that heinous film.

When it comes to cat lovers, there are a lot more entertainment options, and the recent cry for more cat content can probably be attributed to the game Stray, which is a joy to play and way too cute. However, if you believe we missed any of your favorite films, please let us know in the comments section below.
